St John’s church stands at the top of the village, opposite High Hall. St John's is a "chapel of ease". This means that it is not the main place of worship in the parish (which is St Wilfrid's church in Burnsall). St John's was constructed from two cottages in 1898, one of which belonged to local benefactor Sir William Craven. Sir William went from poverty to end up as Lord Mayor of London.
The oak pews were made by Thompson of Kilburn in 1946 famous for including some carved mice in all his work. The eagle eyed may also be able to find an owl and some acorns in the church. Please look at our History page or our church tour page for more information.
Either Evening Prayer or Holy Communion Services are taken every Sunday evening at 6.00pm ( Except the third Sunday in the month) using the Book of Common Prayer
The Church is open every day of the week during daylight hours (subject to
human lapses) and visitors are welcome to look around and enjoy the peace
of this little building
