Pet Service and Blessing of Animals

Burnsall Pet Service and Blessing of Animals

Despite the threat of rain, Burnsall's annual Pet Service and Blessing of Animals took place on the Village Green on 19th July. Locals and tourists alike brought their pets to be blessed by the Revd Fiona Jenkins, the Resident Priest in Burnsall.

Sue Woodcok and Willis the goatSue Woodcock, holding on to Willis, her goat, read the Lesson, from Genesis 2.

"..the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to live alone. I will make a suitable companion to help him." So He took some soil from the ground and formed all the animals and all the birds. Blessing of animalsThen He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and that is how they all got their names.

Blessing the individual animalsAt the end of the service, all the pets and animals, and their owners, were individually blessed.

The service finished with the hymn "All creatures of our God and King", led by Ed Williams on the accordian.
